
SUBMISSION POLICIES
Heather ’n Yon welcomes letters and articles written by Heather Gardens residents.
Please review our policies below prior to submitting.
Letters to Editor Policy
Heather ‘n Yon encourages reader participation on its editorial page. We welcome diverse and varied opinions regarding the Heather Gardens community. Due to space limitations, only one letter per person will be published within any three-month period. Letters must be 300 words or fewer and may be edited for grammar. Letters containing inappropriate language or content, as determined by the editor, will not be published.
Letters will be rejected if they include:

Confusing or unclear points

Crude or offensive language
-
Poor taste or inappropriate tone

Disrespectful comments regarding an individual’s or group’s ethnicity, gender, religion, culture, sexual orientation, or race

Incendiary remarks or inflammatory language
-
Endorsements of or complaints about individually named commercial products or services

Poetry
-
Personal attacks
Heather ‘n Yon will not knowingly publish factually incorrect information.
Please note:

Letters addressed to third parties or submitted to multiple publications will not be accepted.

Responses to previously published letters should refer to the headline and date of the original letter, not the writer's name.

Civil discourse is expected; all individuals should be referred to respectfully.
All submissions must include the writer’s first and last name and building number.
Article Submission Policy
Heather ’n Yon publishes articles written by Heather Gardens residents. Submissions must be nonfiction compositions up to 800 words and meet one of the following criteria:

Resident Profile
Profiles an HG resident (or residents) who is significant in an unusual or interesting way. -
News Article
Informs HG residents of current issues or events affecting the community and clearly summarizes the main facts (who, what, when, where, why, and how). -
Opinion or Personal Essay
An opinion piece or personal essay that informs, entertains, inspires, or persuades, written on a topic of interest to HG residents.
Poetry and fiction by HG residents are occasionally published when space permits.
Submission Requirements

All submissions must include the writer’s first and last name and building number.

This policy also applies to Clubs/Organizations and Sports/Recreation submissions.
Photo submissions: – please submit photos in a separate file: jpeg, 300 dpi (high resolution)
Grounds for Rejection
Article submissions will be rejected if they include any of the following:

Submission of material does not guarantee publication. All content is published at the discretion of the editor.
